Chapter 1: Blood Ties
Last verified: August 27, 2026 · Launch day
Blood Ties is the opening chapter of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and the player's first meeting with Sophia, the smuggler who becomes known as the Scorpion of the Seas. It contains 2 collectible locations — 1 Blade and 1 Artefact — and sets up the journey that draws Sophia to the Minotaur's Island.

Chapter I takes place before the island — in the desert where Sophia's story begins.
Chapter 1 Overview
Chapter I: Blood Ties is a short, story-focused chapter that teaches the basics: moving through the environment, looting bodies and the first taste of combat in the fighting pit. It is split into four sub-chapters:
- Sub-Chapter 1 — A new home
- Sub-Chapter 2 — Faro's cabin
- Sub-Chapter 3 — The search for the key
- Sub-Chapter 4 — The fighting pit
Both collectibles in this chapter are effectively impossible to miss: the blade is an automatic story unlock, and the artefact sits directly on the main path.
Sub-Chapter 1 — A New Home
Rusty Sword — Blade (Automatic)
Your first blade, the Rusty Sword, unlocks automatically as a story reward as soon as the game starts. It counts toward the chapter tracker immediately, so there is no way to miss it. This is also the blade that seems to make the "Untouchable" parry trophy more reliable (see the trophy guide).
Follow the linear path as Sophia's early scenes play out. There are no other collectibles in this sub-chapter.
Sub-Chapter 2 — Faro's Cabin
Sophia reaches Faro's cabin. This short sub-chapter has no collectibles — keep moving and follow the objective marker.
Sub-Chapter 3 — The Search for the Key
Handled Cross — Artefact (Relic of the Present)
When this sub-chapter starts you'll be in a desert. Go forward to the courtyard where you find bodies on the floor — this is the "Loot the bodies" objective. The artefact is in the middle of the area, under the white tree branch. Interact with it to add the Handled Cross to your collection.
This is the only artefact in Chapter 1 and one of the 37 Artefacts needed for the "Hoarder" trophy.

Loot the bodies in the courtyard and grab the Handled Cross under the white tree branch.
Sub-Chapter 4 — The Fighting Pit
The chapter ends with the fighting pit — Sophia's first combat encounter in the game. This is your introduction to the parry-and-counter system that defines Resonance's combat. There are no collectibles here.
Take your time with the parry timing in the fighting pit. Successful parries stun enemies and open them up for the finishing moves that later combat trophies depend on — the pit is a safe place to learn the rhythm before the island gets dangerous.

The fighting pit is Sophia's first taste of the parry-and-counter combat system.
